Cajon Pass to Agua Dulce

We are at the Saufley's in Agua Dulce trying to stay still for a couple of days and let our feet rest. There is a herd of dogs, and even more hikers here. We're full of In-and-Out Burger and root beer floats and THERE IS SO MUCH SHADE!

We're about 175 miles into our hike. The last portion was (again) incredibly beautiful and full of lots of sandy views. Lizards rule supreme out here.

We're whittling away the days by getting up at first light and packing up quickly. We cram Little Debbie in, and hike out, racing the heat of the day. By 10 am, the heat is SWELTERING. It is oppressive. We try to find corners of shade to slurp down water on breaks. By afternoon, we are covered in dust. Our feet are swollen. We wait until it cools and head out for a few more miles in the evening. On a typical day, we have been averaging 18 miles.

I saw my first timber rattler! It had very little interest in me. Tomorrow, we night hike north! Today, we make rice krispie treats and do nooooooothing.
